LANTA, under a contractual agreement with the County of Carbon, offers public transportation within Carbon and to several points outside of the county including the regional Mall area in Whitehall, Lehigh County. This service is sponsored by Carbon County in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's State Lottery Program, Rural Transportation Division and the Federal Transit Administration.

What Is CCCT?

Carbon County Community Transit (CCCT) offers public transportation in Carbon County and to several points outside of the County. Door-to-door and "fixed route" services are offered. Carbon County has retained the Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority (LANTA), based in Allentown, to manage the Carbon County Community Transit System. LANTA's sub-contractor, Easton Coach, with an office in Nesquehoning, oversees day-to-day operations.

Transportation Programs
Agencies sponsoring part or all of the costs of transportation for eligible customers are the: Contact CCCT if you believe you qualify for these services.

Door-to-Door Services:
CCCT offers van services from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday. Customers must apply and call in advance (up to 2 weeks) to reserve a trip. Call-in hours are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday thru Friday. For services needed the following day, customers must call by 2 p.m. the day before. The reservation number is: 570-669-6380.

Customers should know:

  • The Exact Address of their Destination
  • Desired Time of Arrival
  • Time of Return Trip
Since services are limited, it is a good idea for customers to have an acceptable alternative date or time of travel.

About Fares:
The Door-to-door service fare zones are:

In County: Anywhere within Carbon County.
Outside of County: The K-Mart in Walnutport, Tamaqua, Hazelton, The Frackville Mall, LCCC, Allentown, and Bethlehem.

Fares for door-to-door service depend upon whether or not a customer's trip is sponsored:

* Please note: Area Agency on Aging (AAA) sponsorship reduces the cost per trip for seniors. Check with Carbon AAA to verify eligibily.
 
** General public fares are paid in cash. Please have exact change, as drivers are not required to carry change.
 
Books of tickets are available from drivers: $18.00 for 60 tickets. Tickets are also available by mail. Send a self-addressed, stamped envelope (60 cents postage please) to CCCT/LANTA 1060 Lehigh Street, Allentown, PA 18103.

The LYNX: Service between Carbon County & the Lehigh Valley Mall:
CCCT operates the LYNX, a "fixed-route" service, from Monday through Friday, between Nesquehoning and the Lehigh Valley Mall in the Allentown, Lehigh County area. Trips depart Nesquehoning for the Mall at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The return trips from the Lehigh Valley Mall are at 11 a.m. 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Fares are $1.50 per one-way trip for those who board and alight within Carbon County, and $2.50 for those traveling from Carbon to the Malls in Lehigh County. Please have exact change as drivers are not required to carry change.

Seniors 65 or older, with proper ID (Medicare card or State Transit ID card) and who board at the designated stops, may ride the service free of charge except for between 7:00 & 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. If you do not have a Transit ID card call LANTA at 610-776-7433 and request an application.

For persons who are unable to get to the fixed pick-up points because of some physical or mental impairment, and who live within 3/4 miles of the bus stop, arrangements can be made in advance to provide door-to-door service. Please call 570-669-6380 between 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday thru Friday, to ask about this service.

Emergencies/Lost and Found
In the event that your travel plans change at the last minute, or you need to contact someone directly involved in operations about an article left on the vehicle, please call 570-669-6380.

Canceling Your CCCT Trip
Remember that you have reserved a seat on our system. If you are unable to take your trip for any reason, please call the CCCT office in Nesquehoning as soon as possible so that your seat can be given to another person who needs our service. We understand that problems may arise unexpectedly; however, if a passenger continuously abuses these services, we will be forced to restrict future CCCT privileges.

Riding Rules
  • Please report any safety concerns to the driver immediately
  • Do not engage in unnecessary conversation with the driver while the bus is in motion
  • Keep the aisles clear of obstructions: please close strollers and carts before boarding
  • Adults with small children are to provide a car seat. State law does not permit the transport of children 8 and under without a securement device
  • An adult must accompany young children on the bus and is responsible for their behavior
  • When transporting passengers in wheelchairs, drivers are only allowed to negotiate one step at the entrance of the residence.
  • Drivers will assist with no more then three bags of groceries or other packages from the van to the door.
  • Pets are not allowed on vehicles accept for trained service animals
  • Eating or drinking will not be allowed on the vans. Medical exceptions may be made with appropriate documentation from a physician
  • Neither profanity nor abusive language/conduct will be permitted on Metro Plus vans, or when communicating with Metro Plus drivers or staff and may result in immediate suspension of riding privileges.
  • Smoking is not allowed on vehicles
  • Weapons of any type are not allowed on Metro Plus vans
  • Radio/tape/CD/MP3 players must be equipped with headphones to be used on the vans
  • Oxygen tanks for personal use are permitted on board vehicles but must be "tied down." Under no circumstances will "large" oxygen tanks be transported on Metro Plus vehicles
  • Please remain seated while the vehicle is in motion
  • Vandalism or graffiti on any portion of the vehicle is subject to fine or prosecution
  • Assaulting the operator of the vehicle is a felony offense in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

Travel Tips
  • When the van arrives at your house or stop, be ready to go. Passengers who make a driver wait cause delays for others. Please be considerate.
  • Seat belts are to be worn at all times.
  • Passengers should remain seated while the vehicle is in motion
  • Strollers or shopping carts should be folded and kept out of the bus aisle.
  • An adult must accompany young children on the bus and is responsible for their behavior.
  • Adults with small children are to provide a car seat.
  • Please do not eat or drink while on the vehicle.
  • Smoking on the vehicle is prohibited.
  • Pets are not allowed on vehicles except for trained guide/service animals.
  • Radios, CD or Cassette players must be used with earphones.
  • Loud and disruptive may result in removal from the vehicle.
  • When transporting passengers in wheelchairs, drivers are only permitted to negotiate one step at the entrance of the residence.
  • Drivers will carry no more than 3 bags of groceries or other packages to the door of your residence.
